Crushing blows to your team

Postby bolts801 » Sun Sep 07, 2003 11:04 am

Lets all keep it short, but I thought it would be fun to see, and hear about some short horror stories about our teams as of late.

I went from last place to 4.5 games out of first, and was in serious contention.

I lost Lowell, and Jenkins all in the same week.

needless to say i'm losing in HR's RBI's, and RUNS this week, and it will cost me my chance at 1st.

Lowell was past his pinnacle for this year though, and falling fast, but he still contributed though. :(

i lost robb nen and pat burrell early in the season. imagine how powerful nen and foulke would be on a 2 RP team. someone else snagged worrell as soon as he heard nen was out for the year

I think that the biggest crushing blow to my team was drafting poorly.

Injuries: A.J. Burnett (season), Matt Morris (was on a bad stretch before he went on the DL with another injury), Josh Beckett, Mark Sweeney.

I've been pretty injury free, although having Morris, Burnett, and Beckett down with a shallow staff hurt deep. But, I didn't know our league had an innings limit, so I had to cut down on innings after starting like ten pitchers a week for the first couple of months. I've rebounded nicely and am in 2nd now (3rd is 0.5 pts behind). Luckily, I was able to acquire both Hudson (Bradley/Carter/Lilly) and Millwood (Pierre/Lincoln) to shore up my staff after the All-Star Break.

Actually, it's unusual for someone to admit that they had a bad draft. ;-D Stick to the Cafe' in the offseason. We will have draft strategies and mock drafts to help you have a better draft next year. ;-D

In a NL only league having these players injured has hurt my team.
Ray Durham
Tony Armas JR

Trading Giles for millwood in early June then he fell apart for a bit....
Getting on the Dontrelle wagon in late July trading away speed (pierre). Dropped 4 points in steals and Dontrelle who I thought would help me in K's wins, ERA and Whip has hurt me.....

Stealing Guillen off the wire before Griffey got hurt only to have him traded away to the AL.

Madison, thanks for letting that person know about the offseason here....I cant waiut to get some fantays help next year.

My 5 x 5 keeper league team has weathered the following infield injuries:

Ray Durham
Mike Lowell
Jerry Hairston
Barry Larkin
Omar Vizquel

If not for the efforts of Desi Relaford, who's nursing a hurt wrist himself and just got waived in favor of Keith Ginter, I'd have been lost.

As it is, I'm in 2nd place of 15. Luckily, it's only my infield that gets injured.
