Aug 5 Webb (elbow) said he felt fine Friday after his bullpen session on Thursday, and the Diamondbacks expect him to return to action sometime next week, but they're still not sure when, the Arizona Republic reports.
Recommendation: Webb has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday. He could be cleared to return on Monday against the Giants. However, it appears more likely that the D-Backs will let Webb skip a full turn in the rotation and allow him to return on Friday against the Marlins instead. If that's the case, the D-Backs will call up another minor league pitcher (possibly Mike Bacsik) for a spot start on Monday. According to the report, Webb's MRI revealed a flexor tendon strain, an irritating condition but one that apparently is improving daily. "(Webb) wants to pitch and feels like he can, but as long as there is soreness in there, we're going to go the extra yard to make sure he's healthy," manager Bob Melvin said.
