Your best and worst trade of the season

14 team 5x5 h2h keeper league (keep 6)

My worst trade actually led to my best trade...
Worst:
07/03/2006: Traded a 12th round pick, Jimmy Rollins, Scott Shields, Scott Linebrink, Brian Meadows and Mike MacDougal for a 7th round pick, Javier Vazquez, Jhonny Peralta, Takashi Saito and Todd Coffey.
Analysis:
I got a nice pick upgrade for next year and made room on my keeper list (which was another objective) but Meadows is still closing so I didn't gain a closer there like I thought I would (since Coffey lost his job 3 days later). Vazquez still hasn't turned things around though I expect him to get things in gear soon. At least I picked up Guardado right after this trade though.

Setup trades for the best trade:
07/09/2006: Traded a 3rd round pick for a 12th round pick and Brad Penny.
07/11/2006: Traded an 8th round pick, Jhonny Peralta and Ken Ray for a 12th round pick, Julio Lugo and Ryan Dempster.
07/17/2006: Traded a 5th round pick for a 13th round pick and Roger Clemens.
Analysis:
In a complete retooling of my pitching staff for the stretch run I dealt a 3rd and a 5th round pick to get Penny and Clemens. In the trade on the 11th (a strong runner-up for best trade of the year) I traded an 8th round pick, Peralta and Ken Ray to get Julio Lugo and Ryan Dempster. That steal along with the other two trades set up the following.

Best trade:
07/30/2006: Traded a 9th round pick, 12th round pick, 14th round pick, Julio Lugo, Roger Clemens and Brad Penny for three 15th round picks and Vernon Wells.
Analysis:
I had Pujols, Utley, Crawford, Kazmir, Bonderman and Penny as keepers. Not only does this tilt the scales back to primarily offense for my keepers but Wells is a HUGE upgrade over Penny in general. I have the roster space now to spot start pitchers daily now and already had more speed than I needed...this trade actually breaks me even if not gives me a bit better team this year and is HUGE for next year.

How exactly did that seem like a good idea at the time? Many people projected Howard to hit 30+ homers this year. A 30+ homer guy isn't equal value for Wickman even having a career year.

Best:
My Wright, Weeks, Delmon Young in a keeper league to a team rebuilding for Vlad, Zambrano, Utley, Jeter

Worst:
After aquiring Jeter, traded Renteria for Jojhima...both trades right before the season started.

In another league I got Verlander for Burgos...haha.

That gets a big :-? from me on the 'what was he thinking' scale. Utley/Zambrano versus Wright/Weeks is close when you're looking at future value only. Utley is the best 2b in baseball and may be that for 5 years or so if not more. CZam is a dynamic young pitcher. I'd put the future value of those guys as a push. So he basically traded Vlad/Jeter to get Delmon Young. That's one hell of a deal for you.

Best Trade:

Traded Halladay to get Beltran about two weeks into the season when Beltran was having leg problems.

Last month, traded Giambi to a rabid Yankees fan for Yohan Santana.

Got one more deal pending that should clear tomorrow (knock on wood) I give Bay, Papelbon, Sheets, and Fe Lopez and get Pujols, J Reyes, and Harden.

Worst Trades:

None, I don't make bad trades. B-) :-b

NL-only keeper league I got Soriano for B. Phillips and Anibal Sanchez. But if Soriano goes to the AL in a trade, I don't get any stats from him at all. :-o
