Why is there no love for Beltran?

Postby The_Met_Threat » Sat Jul 29, 2006 7:26 pm

Everyone was expecting relatively low numbers, with him maxing out at around 25 HR, and those people were said to be "optimistic". Which is the fluke year? 2005, or 2004 + 2006.

This guy is the best player in the game.

Umm...no. That would be Albert Pujols.

Beltran isn't even #1 on his own team for runs created. While he is among the games greatest (ranked 11th in VORP), no one is close to Pujols. Pujols missed a bunch of time earlier in the season and still leads the league in runs created and win shares.

That said, I'm very glad to have him on 2 of my 4 teams. :-)

Ok maybe i was a little bit hasty with the "best player in the game", but my point was that so many people were down on him before the season, doesn't seem like hes getting the same recognition as others. Keep in mind he missed a lot of time too, he only has about 20-30 more AB than Pujols.

I agree that he was certainly looked down upon by many cafe members before the season, but many, if not most, of the those were bitter 2005 fantasy owners. Obviously Beltran hadn't lost any of his previous talent and with the upgrade in the lineups this season I think most of the wiser ones here expected a return to fantasy dominance, or at least a good return on investment. That's -- the lack of surprise -- is probably the reason why there haven't been too many Beltran threads thus far.

What about the fact that Beltran's defense is one of the best in the game. Would that at least warrant him 2nd best player in the league...

Im just trying to see how many better players there are in the game today than Beltran. Defense included. Other than Pujols, i'm not really sure there is. :-?

Yeah well all I have to say is this line from a high round 1 pick:

582 ABs 16 Hrs 78 rbis 83 runs 17 Sbs

When was the last time you saw Vlad, Manny, Pujols ever put up garbage like that?
