Part of it is that Manuel became convinced that Frank was a huge defensive liability at 1B, and took Frank off the field. Frank has ALWAYS hit much better at 1B than at DH, probably because he stews and frets so much about his hitting while sitting on the bench. When Manuel put Hurt in at 1B earlier this summer, Frank broke out in a big way - until Manuel decided Konerko was his 1B, and then Frank immediately went into a slump.
This season's BA for Frank: .352 while playing 1B, .243 while at DH
