I voted for Berroa, but what about Matos and if he keeps the numbers up??? Or is he considered a rookie??? I really wouldn't consider Matsui a rookie and I wish he wouldn't be eligible for it, considering that he has played professional ball in a different country. But that is a whole nother topic there, isn't it?

Matsui would be considered same a rookie by the MLB. Same situation as Ichiro few years ago. A. Soriano also had played some pro ball in Japan before he play in the big league as well.

[quote=I'm still mad that Ichiro stole it from Soriano, but since Matsui is eligble he'll win. Next year, they should definately change the rule, so players like Ichiro and Matsui are rightfully ineligble for ROY.[/quote]

Ichiro stole it? Sorianos numbers werent that close.
No one has stated Baldellis case, but using the 5 catergories listed, hes 1st in 3 of them.
I see no problem in foreign players being eligible. They are rookies in MLB.

I think that this is currently too close to call. There are a handful of candidates, all of whom deserve serious consideration. For me, it's a toss up between Matsui and Berroa. We'll see where these guys are at in another month. But any of several other guys (Teixeira, Baldelli, etc.) are so close, any one of them could slip into the lead.

By the way, I'm voting for Berroa in the poll here. I don't consider Matsui as true of a rookie as Berroa, even though he does fall into rookie consideration. That's just my opinion.

Obviously the numbers weren't close, but I felt that Ichiro as a "rookie" stole it from Soriano. If it weren't for MLB's stupid definition of a rookie Soriano would have won. In the same way, Matsui will steal ROY from a deserving rookie this year.

You do know NY got Soriano from Japan? So its ok for him to play there and still be a rookie, but not Ichiro?

i'm gonna go with berroa, displayed excellent leadership tonight on the field vs. the chi sox. calling off others for a popup that could have been easily caught by all, walking to the mound and supporting hernandez when he was in a jam. should expect good things from him in the future.
