The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the deal has been shelved for now. The Padres are saying that since they're last place anyway, taking on too much payroll for this season is pointless; instead they might pursue some of the more high-profile free agents this offseason. Giles and Kendall won't be among them, though an offseason trade is still possible. Poor poor wrveres ... But as a Pirates fan I'm pretty happy about this.

I still want Giles in a better lineup. If the Pirates won't trade him, then at least get him some protection in the lineup.
