Anyone picking up Hoffman for saves year end?

Postby SFGIANTS » Sun Aug 03, 2003 10:43 pm

Is any picking up trevor hoffman for saves at year end or will he be so far gone that he isn't worth it?
Go Giants, that means you too Barry. Think you can run over to catch the ball for us? Jeez, thanks.

He's going to be rusty. I'm going to wait and see, but I doubt that he closes.

I'dd give him a shot. I picked up Rod Beck and he has been better than Foulke for me.

I grabbed him as a DL stash. Why not? He'll grab an odd inning or two in non-save situations and will then close the last three weeks if he's ready by Labor Day. Also interesting to note Beck has already indicated he would like to re-up with SD and serves as Hoffman's setup guy.

I don't think he will be of much help in anything except a deep NL only team...If the Shooter keeps up his work, then there would be no reason to rush Hoffman back into the fight...

I'm staying away from him. Most of my teams don't have an open DL spot anyways.

I am thinking about it, if my one league had a DL spot, I would defintiely grab him up, but it doesn't and it is just a wait and see opportunity, I guess if I am still in contential when the time comes, I will snatch him right up as the closer situations are few and far between this season.

No offense to anyone offering an opinion on this...but anyone who thinks Hoffman sets up Beck is CRAZY! I don't care if Shooter reels off another ten saves this month and is 24/25 by Labor Day...when Hoffman is ready to go he will be the closer. At most, they may ease Hoffman in with a game or two where he works an odd inning, but there is zero question as to the SD closer once he is back.
