How about Rod Beck? From a trailer behind the park in Iowa to 14 straight saves in San Diego

Think the Cubs are kicking themselves about that one...

No not really kicking themselves...I think the deal that Hendery held up to was admirable...If some other team wanted him the Cubs would release him and give him the chance...JoBo has done a good job for th Cubs...But I wish all the luck to the Shooter...as long as he is not pitching against the Cubbies....

And I would vote for him as the story of the year... ;-D

The Royals have gone from a 7 game lead to a 1 game lead in little over two weeks. Ouch. If they can rebound from their brutal series with the Sox, then they're the story of the year.

story of the year?

Postby BayAreaBaseballFan » Fri Aug 01, 2003 1:10 am

For me I prefer teams rather than players (although it's REALLY tough to argue with Willis, who is both an awesome pitcher and flashy enough to be interesting as well)~ So I'm going with the Royals and the Marlins.

Really though, they're like the Twins -- who would have thought these two teams would be ANYWHERE close to making the playoffs?
(Please, raise your hands?)

Oh, and I'm loving the fact that the giants were picked to win.. what? 83 games? 85? Oh, yeah, now they have the 2nd best record in baseball and are loading up for a run at the WS. Sucka Las Vegas people.

If Webb got the publicity that Willis gets, then that would be my top story.

That's not happening, so I'd either go with the Royals or the Marlins. As long as one of them make the playoffs. If both make it, then the Royals.

I agree - this was definitely one of the classiest moves I've seen in baseball in a while... ;-D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sammy corking his bat.
