Halladay pulled after 68 pitches?

Why was Halladay pulled in the eighth inning after only 68 pitches? I have nothing to complain about in his final line -- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 4 K, W -- but did he get injured or something? Or was it just to give him some time off since he's pitching on 3 days rest? Thanks ...

Nope, no injury.

Anyone who saw the game would tell you he coulda gone the whole way fairly easy, but the game was in the bag as they were up 8-0 or something and Halladay pitched on 3 days rest b/c of tuesdays rainout so I think Tosca and the Jays made the right move pulling him when they did.

glad to see it. its not as if halladay has shown any signs of slowing down or overuse in this now this second year of being used as much as anyone in baseball.......but to get through 7 innings with just 2 hits and no runs and picking up the win i dont care if he could go 9......is anyone out there better than this guy? i have him in my keeper league and i dont think id trade him straight up for any starter.

Thanks for the info ... The only reason I care is that one league in which I own him has shutouts as a category, so it's always distressing to see a pitcher who's shut out the opposition with ease for 7 innings on so few pitches to be pulled without getting anything in that category. (And the category is really tight as well ... I have an early lead thanks to Mulder and Morris, but it's real close. :-))

Yep, just resting him. No sense in taking a chance on an injury. Nice game though! ;-D

WHAT...you can actually take out a quality pitcher after 7 IP and 68 pitches... :-?

**picks up phone to call Dusty and tell him to get his act together**

Nice game by Halladay.... ;-D

Tosca said this will be the last time that Halladay will pitch on a 3 days rest this season. Save his arm for long term :-)

He was on short rest and the game was a blowout, so it would have been a waste to have him run up a high pitchcount in that type of game. The Jays TV commentators were speculating that maybe Tosca was taking him out so early so they could start him on 3 days rest again on Thursday given the low pitch count.

So what did Dusty say? I bet he said:"You listen to me DHC, I'll use my pitchers til their arms fall off! If you like it or not!" :-D

*Super GM is callin Bobby Cox, telling him he needs a new bullpen!* ;-D

He has had an unreal year. As a Halladay owner, I'm pleased but I think I'll be staying away next year when he jumps up to top 25 range like Zito and Oswalt this year.
