What to expect out of Ray Durham the rest of this year

Postby BeautifulBrunette » Tue Jul 22, 2003 11:25 am

Even taking into account his early injury, Ray's numbers have been very flat. Here's how he's performed so far this year in my league's 5 offensive categories:

Runs 43
HR 4
RBI 20
SB 7
OBP .380

What do you guys think? Is he a strong second half guy? Get out your talking 8 balls and give me some opinions, please. :-D

I'm not expecting much.
Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.
Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.
Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

I'm not expecting much either. Somebody in my league just dropped Marcus Giles. I'll see if I can claim him off waivers for Durham. After all Giles' stats are better....

Looks to me like his numbers don't usually change much in the 2nd half. He's pretty much doing his usual thing: hit .290 steal a few bases, hit a few homeruns and if you're lucky end up with more than 100 runs scored. His RBI numbers are still gonna hurt, but there aren't many options at 2B.

I drafted him in my 5-team league, benched him for Vidro for a while, and eventually dropped him for Aaron Boone when he became available (during one of those ice-cold streaks Boone has pretty regularly). Over the past thirty days he hasn't been in the top 50 in the majors in runs or steals (worse than Pujols in both those categories), even though he's 18th in the ML in at bats. His OBP in that period is also .315.

Right now I would much rather have Michael Young. Heck, I'd rather have Eric Young. I'm not regretting dropping him at all.

My offense is so potent that I don't think having Durham is that much of liability with his upside. However, if you need good production out of 2B, Durham is not the guy this year.

I can use Spivey, Polanco, or Alomar over Durham. Not sure it's worth it.
