This thread is starting to remind me of Mr. 3000. A great idea turned into a terrible movie, but it did show how arbitrary the HOF criteria can be. For example, who would you rather put in the hall:

Player A: 2700 hits / 15 years of play
Player B: 3000 hits / 20 years of play

I'd vote for player A.

Nerfherders wrote:I think Chipper Jones will get more love than any of you expect. For the simple fact that he's a 3B, and believe it or not 3B are very under-represented in the HoF. Mike Schmidt is arguably the best 3B of all time and has a lifetime AVG of .267. Jones is one of the best switch-hitters since Mickey Mantle, should end up with +400 HR, +.300 AVG, and +2500 hits. I think Jones gets in because of position scarcity if nothing else.

As for Andruw, he's a lock if he hits 500 HR. It doesnt matter what else he gets besides that. 500+ HR while being the greatest CF of his generation is lock.

Those who are locks 1st ballot if they hung them up today:

Clemens
Maddux
Bonds
Griffey

2nd ballot or longer:

Pedro
Randy
Biggio
Thomas
Bagwell
Glavine
Smoltz
Hoffman
Rivera

Pedro, Clemens, Maddux, and RJ are easy 1st ballot guys. No question at all.

I say

Randy Johnson
Barry Bonds
Tom Glavine
John Smoltz
Greg Maddux
Roger Clemens
Mariano Rivera
Alex Rodriguez
Ken Griffey Jr.

Who do you think is missing from my list

I posted my pitchers, but Jeter and Manny are both sure fire first ballot guys. Both with great numbers for their position, both with WS MVP trophies.

Also, Pudge and Piazza because they have great numbers at a tough position for great numbers. Piazza has lost over 50 career homers hitting in pitcher parks.

Both Jeter and Manny have to put up more numbers to be 1st ballot locks. Assuming health, etc., I'll Jeter gets in 1st ballot for sure, Manny maybe.
