I Need Some Advice.

Postby somervillesoxfan » Wed Mar 29, 2006 8:22 pm

I am in a 10 team head to head league with the following stat categories: R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, AVG, OPS, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, K, SVOP, ERA, WHIP, K/BB. We start the following positions:C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, OF, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, RP, P, P, P, P, P and we have 7 bench slots. I need some help deciding what my team is lacking. I know that my closers arent that great but im going to try to scoop some off of the waiver wire or aquire one in a trade. Also, I was just offered Bobby Crosby for Gathright...should I do it?
Here is my team:
C Willingham
1B Pujols
2B Utley
3B Wright
SS Peralta
IF Howard
OF Crawford
OF Bonds
OF Holliday
OF Granderson
Util Shelton
Bench Gathright
Bench Jenkins
Bench I. Kinsler

SP F. Hernandez
RP Turnbow
P Valverde
P Orvella
P Clemens
P Patterson
P Kazmir
Bench D. Cabrera
Bench M. Cain
Bench F. Liriano
Bench Prior (soon to be put in DL slot so I have an extra Bench spot (Hitter or Pitcher)

Available players include: Kotchman, Murton, Kearns, Monroe, Borowski, Devine, Erv. Santana, Rodney, Verlander, and Weathers.

What should I do? I also have one slot open because Prior just went onto the DL. Do I make the trade or pickup a few of those guys? Please help!!!! Leave a link and ill respond.

for a 10 team that's nasty

pass on Crosby for Gathright, who could steal 50 bags...but for a decent closer I would let him go, you def need another one. Pick up Borowski, I believe he's closing for Fla right now, and you need it. OR Miceli in Tampa.

so you dont think that crosby will have a better year then gathwright? i now he'll steal bases but so will crawford. all though I guess I really wouldnt have anywhere to play him unless I sat shelton for him. Oh by the way though it is a keeper league and I had studs for keepers.

Agree with the Crosby statement, but I wouldn't go and pick up Borowski just yet. LAst I heard his hold on the CL role is tenuous at best. Miceli is the better option, but if I were you, I'd take a LONG HARD look at Verlander from Detroit. The kid has good stuff and should be able to fill in for Prior quite well on your team.

thoughts on mine??

Borowski is just a rental as he costs SSfan nothing since he has to put Prior on the DL. Better to grab a few saves while they're there. Though I agree Verlander is nasty, I would consider dropping Orvella for him, if Miceli is taken already.

Overall your team is pretty young and that may hurt you down the stretch. Especially, if Bonds gets hurt and also Pujols can also be injury prone.

I like Wright and Howard, they should be fine.

Overall your hitting is good....GRADE B

Pitching, same thing, very risky with Clemens, not sure if he is going to pitch. Prior is going to be up and down on the DL all year, why not trade him for more pitching veterans. Your pitching staff is really young and could hurt you down the line.

Pitching....GRADE C+

Like you told me about my team, you need some depth and more veteran players, otherwise I can see your team struggling the whole season.

My 2 cents.
The BIG RED Machine will rise again.

Alright I grabbed Verlander off of waivers with my extra spot since Prior went on the DL. Do you think I should nab Miceli or Devine and drop Kinsler?

dont like having both Bonds and Clemens on the same team, you never know if Roger is going to pitc or when bonds is going to go down.

I think i would stand pat for now and let someone else make some offers once the season starts.

see I think that both clemens and bonds will be fine this year. maybe bonds wears down at the end, but i may be able to trade him when he is at his peak this year. and i think that its a definite that clemens pitches again. plus i didnt really reach at all for bonds or clemens.
anyone else have any comments on my team?

your hitting is great, your starters are ok, but the potential for success is very high, with cain, cabrera, kazmir, liriano. you probably got good value for all of them in terms of draft position. your closers however, are pretty bad. i would try to swing a trade for a closer, and pick up devine, b/c none of the waiver options are very good, and devine has the best chance out of all of them to win a job and keep it.
