How do you get out of a keeper league?

Postby Fantasy Guru » Wed Mar 29, 2006 7:14 pm

I'm a jerk, I won't deny it.

I missed the keeper league draft that a few people on another forum set up.

I was left with a terrible team. For the most part.
Lots of old/useless people

Clemens, Schilling, Mariano Rivera, Smoltz - old
Erstad, Uribe, Randa, Eaton, etc - useless

The players I'd see myself keeping would be: (8 keepers, at least 3 pitchers, 3 hitters)

Derrek Lee
Aramis Ramirez
Bobby Abreu
Carlos Delgado
Mariano Rivera
Brett Myers
Smoltz for a year..?
Johnny Damon?

I DON'T want to play with a team like this, and I left a league note about it, but I want to know how members of the cafe would handle me leaving.

I'd probably call you a loser and ask that you find a new manager in the classified section to take over your team for the league. ;-D

I've missed the draft for a keeper league before, and inherited a team in another league that was a disaster. Neither time did I quit. You should work extra hard on getting some trades through and keep a closer eye than usual on the waiver wire.

Or quit...it's up to you, but that seems like sour grapes if you ask me.

if you bailed out of my league, your name would be a running joke throughout the season. but no anger or death threats. just a general, "what a tool" attitude.

Explain that, though.

"what a tool" is kind of a stupid insult, heh.

Sounds like a mild case of poor sportsmanship to me. I'd take it as a challenge. There are always young up and comers coming up from the minors and this year there seems like there are quite a few prospects on the cusp of making the jump from the minors to the big leagues. If you were bent on quitting, I'd hand my team over to someone else. That may be difficult to do if it's a Yahoo league as you'd have to give your yahoo id/pw away to someone. I guess if your team became dead, they could just recruit someone else to take over your players/team in 2007. The problem with quitting is that there are probably 11 other people who are taking the league seriously and then there is one guy trying to ruin it, or atleast mess things up. Guess who that person is

I've taken over a team that actually had Luis Castillo as a keeper for a year a couple years ago.

Things are looking better now that I've put some effort into it.
Yes, I was, uh... I was thinking about ordering the tape, the videotape... about the college girls and the... the wild... the wildness. They're going wild or something? Somebody told me... about going wild.

I think these two lines sum up the situation quite well.

You made a committment to be in this league. The commish and x other managers expected you to show up at the draft. It is only your fault that you did not show up at the draft while everyone else did.

In fairness to the x other guys in the league, you should due your duty and compete like you normally would for the rest of the season. If you're really against it, then just do the minimal work of rotating and occassionally picking up a few guys.

If at season's end you don't like your team, THEN quit so the commish has ample time to find a replacement.

Quitting post-draft but pre-season is lame and although your life might become easier, you just ruined a good time for x other people. Not cool.
