Hee Seop Choi to start (and probably spend) season in minors

Postby Matthias » Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:12 pm

From the Boston Globe today:

Hee Seop Choi, who has a minor league option remaining, stands to be the last cut. Because he debuted in the majors more than three years ago, Choi will have to clear revocable waivers to be optioned. He's expected to clear, given that the Sox were able to claim him last week, after all 16 NL teams passed on him and the AL teams with a better 2005 record than the Sox passed on him. His eventual demotion will get the club to 25.

Probably completely ends any value he has in a redraft league. Depending on how he progresses in Pawtucket, could be worth a late-season claim in a keeper.

They could've told me he became a Formula 1 driver and it would've have had the same impact to his fantasy value, which is none.

Why are we even talking about this guy? He will and should be on zero fantasy teams no matter what your league is like.

That's a shame...I was looking forward to hearing the Hee Seop Choi chants.

We are talking about him because his position on the roster endangers others playing time. By putting him in the minors this means that all the speculation that Lowell would lose starts to Youk, with Choi playing first, ends. He has a trickle down effect on several other players.

They still got JT Snow to play 1B.

If Lowell is hitting 210 woth 1 Hr and 5 rbis come May 1, you will see Choi in Boston and Lowell on the DL after developing a sudden groin or hamstring injury.
