Is it just me, or is Konerko still underrated?

Is it just me, or is Konerko still underrated?

You would think back-to-back 40-homer seasons would make that impossible, but he still seems to not get the respect.
He surprisingly went unprotected in my keeper league, which caused me to take a hard look at him.
Of all the hard-swinging first basemen with 40-homer power (Dunn, Sexson, Thome, etc.), Konerko seems like a lock to give you similar power and RBI AND between 30 and 50 points higher average.
Helton also went unprotected, and the more I look at their numbers, I think he and Konerko are a lot closer in value than I thought.
It seems to me that Konerko is a notch above a lot of the guys he's being lumped in with this year. Anyone else see this?

maybe a little, but konerko has had long stretches where he really sucks. something like that can bury your fantasy team. even if it's unlikely he will do that again, it is still is a factor in people's minds.

Should we put Ryan Howard into the mix?

Pujols
Teix
Ortiz

Helton
D. Lee

Konerko
Delgado
Howard
Sexson
Dunn
Thome

I have 'em like this, Konerko is less valuable than Helton...but he's the best of the next tier of first baseman. I'd feel comfortable taking him in the late 4th or early/mid 5th round.

I am defintely hung up on 2003. I won't touch him ever again. It happened once, it can happen again.

I drafted Konerko and he was hitting in the .220s until June last season.. Give me Sexson any day.

That looks about right except I'm not touching Delgado...bad feeling.
