Hi John --

Min innings 7 (on yahoo) means that for the week in H2H, you HAVE to pitch at least 7 innings. If you don't, you forfeit all pitching categories. This is done to prevent a M. Rivera owner, for instance, from pitching 1 inning in the week, winning a bunch quality categories (depending on settings).

Strategic implications: If you've pitched at least seven innings in a week with great results, consider pulling your pitchers (again, if the league settings you're in make this beneficial).

Most leagues I'm in up the minimum innings pitched number from 7 to 21. It keeps some team owners from loading up on top-notch closers to take advantage of winning the majority, if not all, of the pitching categories each week.

EDIT: changed maximum to minimum.

I hope you mean "minimum" instead of "maximum"... as I would hope you could have at least 21 innings pitched a week.

But yeah, if you have a minimum innings pitched, you should definitely stock up on closers. But it also depends on how many pitchers you are allowed to start.

Why would a minimum IP, which is very common, automatically make you inclined to stock up on closers?

If you got a 0.00 ERA and a 0.00 WHIP you'd probably only win 2 pitching categories out of 5 in a 5x5 if you went that route. While it may be a fine strategy if you plan out the other categories and get the right players, a minimum IP by no means sets the tone for stocking up on relief pitchers.
The odds of the AL MVP coming from the American League are looking pretty good.
