Is this a fair trade?

Postby mythrabbit » Fri Mar 03, 2006 5:12 pm

I'm very on the fence about the following trade...I'm looking for some recommendations.

Here's my team:

C - J Lopez
1b - T Helton
2b - C Utley
3b - D Wright
ss - M Young
of - K Griffey Jr
of - C Tracy
of - S Green
Util - R Sexson
bn - P Polanco
bn - D Dellucci

SP - R Harden
SP - B Sheets
RP - J Borowski
RP - D Weathers
P - J Beckett
P - B Myers
P - Z Duke
bn - Capuano
bn - Clement
bn - Liriano

The trade offer is this:
J Santana, E Renteria, and C Cordero for me
M Young, R Harden, and S Green for him

Is it a good trade for me, or I am I just breaking even while he improves a lot (he has closers to spare and is desperate for offense)?

Agree get Johan. You'll be able to make up the difference.

This would be better addressed in the Draft, Trade, Keeper and Waiver Questions forum, but I'll give it a shot anyways. I like the trade for you. There's no better pitcher in the game than Johan and Cordero is an immediate upgrade at RP. The only place you really lose out here is at SS. Renteria is a significant dropoff from Young, but a lot of people like Renteria for a bounce back year to his STL numbers. I think you have plenty of power on offense to take care of letting Young go. If I were you however, I'd see if you could maybe trade him a 1B instead of OF as you have 4 guys who qualify there in Helton, Utley, Tracy, and Sexson (and likely Lopez pretty soon after the season starts). I don't like Green that much, but he's a little bit of an upgrade over Dellucci. If you can get him interested in one of your 1B, I'd like that a lot better for you.

Do it and do it now!

Santana is a huge upgrade over Harden. Hell, he's the best pitcher in the game (at least fantasy wise, anyway). Renteria is a downgrade to Young and you'll lose a bit of speed, but you'll still have a pretty strong lineup in the end. You'll probably have to deal a pitcher for an OF unless you actually want Dellucci starting with no backup, but C. Cordero should anchor the Nats bullpen and pick you up a good amount of saves with a solid ERA and K's. Not big on Shawn Green to begin with as he's starting to age. But Cordero is the closer you need since your relievers are pretty skim on fantasy talent.

After you do the trade, deal Clement/Capuano for a good closer/good OF if you can.
