Is Jerry Manuel really this dumb?

Is anyone following how Jerry Manuel is using his closer today. It was a 3-1 White Sox lead going into the 9th but instead of brining Koch in to start the inning, Manuel left Gordon is who then proceeds to load the bases with nobody out. Then, Manuel finally makes the move and puts Koch in.

What is this guy going through? Is his goal to create a situation where Koch is likely to blow the save? Koch owners have to be infuriated with this.

I second the motion on Manual being a dumb#@$

He messed up Foulke last year too.

Koch owners should be happy they got a win.

Well now that El Pulpo choked up a gopher ball in the bottom of the 9th, Koch owners at least get a cheap win.

I think the logical question to ask is.... where was Damaso Marte during all of this! Why not get him in on the fun too!

I think it shows the lack of faith in Koch. Marte should be the closer there. I can't say anyone is dumb if they make to the managerial level in the major leagues. I do think he should evaluate his pen a bit though.

The question is, if he has a lack of faith in Koch preserving the lead, why wouldn't you bring him in with the bases empty at the beginning of the inning then bring him in with the bases loaded. If you don't have faith in someone pitching a clean inning and not giving up 2 runs, how can you have faith in him getting out of a bases loaded, no outs situation?

This is a good question. I don't know who was due up that inning. My guess is that Koch may have not had a good outing against these batters and none were lefties (setting up Marte)
