I'm not quite sure I can totally agree w/ the 'exclusion zone' idea though. Sure, it's quaint but, w/o knowing what's up, it seems like the people would be at risk for disease, reduced life expectency and other hazards of neolithic culture.
I guess it didn't work 'helping' the other peoples that have been subjected to modernization but the notion of keeping them isolated unless a salvagable shipwreck hits the island or drunk fishermen are washed ashore seems a bit ridiculous, kind of like keeping them in a zoo or something of that nature. If anybody found oil or a diamond pipe or some other commodity there, they'd be toast IMHO...
I think exposing them to other people would put them at risk of disease. They have made it this long without outside contact, there is no reason to think they can't continue. But I agree. If it is discovered that there is oil, diamonds, or any other natural resource where they are living I'm sure they'll be relocated or assimiliated quickly.
