Cabrera #1 OF in 2006?

Postby shortsavage » Wed Jan 11, 2006 5:18 pm

I know he's switching back to 3B, but Miguel Cabrera will still be outfield eligible in 2006. If he racks up 600+ at bats again in his third full major league season, is Cabrera a favorite to be the most valuable outfielder in fantasy baseball?

Right now I have him slightly above Manny Ramirez and Vladimir Guererro.

His R and RBI will suffer because of the firesale. Unless he can start stealing I'd take Vlad and Manny over him.

Not this year. Maybe not ever, IMO. MCab is going to be a great hitter, but he will not be better than those two this year.

Agreed. Those are the two OF's I have listed above him too.

Right, his team based stats are really going to suffer

I agree. Vlad and Manny are still 1/2 IMO.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

He still doesn't touch Vlad. Vlad still does everything better.

I am not someone who drafts based on position scarcity, but I do know that I would laugh at anyone who put Cabrera in the OF. Same for Figgins, Huff, or Freel.

Why would you want to do this?

Um, if you get ARod or ARam and MCab, you'd be better off with MCab in the OF than on the bench, right?

Depends on your league too, my league has 5 OF slots, 3B and CI. Many times with the 5 OF slots and a utility slot OF actually lacks depth.
