The Yankees are now willing to give Hideki Matsui a four-year deal for $11 million-$12 million per year, but they still aren't certain it will be enough.
Matsui, who is trying to convince the Yankees' of his willingness to play for other teams, could hold out for the five-year, $55 million contract that J.D. Drew received a year ago. Looks like he might be a bit more expensive then we all bargained for but it shouldn't be a problem. He remains atop the Yankees priority list. Hopefully a deal gets done soon, though I hope it's less than 5 years. That's a long-term contract that has burned the Yankees in the past.
