Neifi Perez signs for 2 years?

Postby RynMan » Wed Nov 09, 2005 9:56 pm

Can anyone tell me why the Cubs signed Perez to 2 years for 5 million?
If they are interested in Furcal and actually land him, that's alot of money to pay a backup with a good glove, terrible bat. If they don't land Furcal and make him their everyday SS, it's gonna get ugly.

I hope that is a sign that Furcal is going back to Atl.
There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

From everything I've read he will be the backup SS and possibly play some 2B if we trade Walker. I'm not a big fan of giving Neifi 2.5 mill a year but he's solid defensively atleast. If he's the Cubs starting SS next year they are in huge trouble.

I hope not. The Braves have better ways to spend their money than blowing it all on an overrated player like Furcal.

Furcal led the Braves in Win Shares this season.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Is it possible that Neifi has blackmail photos of Dusty? I mean....how could this possibly happen?

They had $5 million to waste. I seriously can't think of a good reason. Even Mustangs theory that he is supposed to back up SS/2B or play 2B if Walker is traded doesn't make sense to me cause that's what I thought Cedeno would do and do better for a lot less $$$.

Perez is not the answer. He's a waste of money the Tribune should have never spent on him. If they don't get Furcal, I'm not going to be too happy. I guess though that if the White Sox can win with Uribe as their SS, we could do it with Perez?

Man that's a bad signing. Use the kid Cedeno as the backup and use the extra 5 mil to pull in a big name (Giles, Furcal).
