My one piece of advice when working out would be not to isolate specific muscles groups. Do movements under resistance that emphasize various groups to work together - i.e. dumbell press on a gym ball, 1-arm rows while standing on 1 leg etc.
If you want to do the old beach workout go for the bicep curls, bench press and crunches. That should get you some looks from the girls but you won't have half the core power of someone who compounds their training.
