Waiver wire strategy (AL- and NL-only leagues)

Postby mamorris » Tue Aug 02, 2005 7:46 am

I was just wondering what you guys in AL- and NL-only leagues were doing with your waiver priorities. I'm in one of each, and have been saving my #1 priorities for the trade deadline, which turned out to be a huge bust. Are you guys with high waiver priorities cutting your losses and picking up guys like Randy Winn or Phil Nevin, or are you saving it, hoping for an impact rookie or an August trade?

Depends on need - if a few SB can help you, pick up Winn. If not, and you really don't gain anything by using it, then I'd keep it for two reasons:

1) you never know what type of August trades might occur. They seem to be more prevalent over the last couple of year.

2) you never know when another owner will make a stupid drop.

So, if one of the guys changing leagues helps, use it since there's no guarantee that anything more significant will occur. If not, keep it since there's no point wasting it for non-help.
