Seriously, as long as they remain in the AL East with NY, Boston and Baltimore, they are never going to compete on that payroll.

Yeah. Ownership keeps on saying that they'll pay more once we're ready, but that seems like crap. Our only shot is to have ALL of the youngsters up at the same time...that will give us a shot...it would be:

C Toby Hall
1B Wes Bankston...tearing up the minors this year.
2B Jorge Cantu
3B Might have to sign somebody here...Reid Brignac might play here, but he'll take a while to get to TB.
SS BJ Upton (if his defensive issues don't move him)
LF Carl Crawford
CF Rocco Baldelli
RF Delmon Young
DH (or OF) Joey Gathright/Elijah Dukes/Jonny Gomes/Jason Pridie
(trading one OF is a very reasonable possibility)

SP Scott Kazmir
SP Jeff Niemann
SP Wade Townsend
SP Jason Hammel
SP James Houser
(Casey Fossum, Dewon Brazelton, Seth McClung)
CL Chad Orvella (he may setup)

Basically, with the core in place, the hope is that we can add some auxiliary pieces through free agency to give the big two East teams a run for their money. As you can see, it's an all-or-nothing type ordeal here.

At least y'all didn't do what you did last year...when you were slipping out of the race, too.

Here's where moving Huff could've helped. I have no idea what was offered by either of the Sox and/or the Mets, but IF they could have gotten Anibel Sanchez, McCarthy and/or Petit in one or more deals, they should have done so, even if it meant that Huff, Baez and/or Lugo were all moved.

This one was rumored and fizzled pretty quickly after the mets/rsox/drays thing started. But Huff to St Louis would have been great.

Anything where the Jays would get another power hitter.

As a Huff owner, I was dying to see him shipped to Boston, St. Louis, or the White Sox.

But the guy I'm in a save race with had Farnsworth and didn't grab Rodney in time.
