this is tough because most aren't huge hitting prospects, and alot of them wind-up @ 1B or OF :

1. Brian McCann - good enough defense, nice power, so-so avg
2. Jarrod Saltalamachia - good power, better avg, good enough behind the plate.. i think i like him a little better then McCann but oh well..
3. Jeff Clement - just signed with the mariners.. could be the best hope for c's
4. Neil Walker - maybe the other best hope. still too early to tell
5. Ryan Garko - nice hitter, not the best.. might not stay at c
6. Josh Willingham
7. George Kottaras
8. Ryan Doumit
9. Chris Snyder
10. Juan Apodaca
11. Orlando Mercado - pit has good c's
12. Kelly Shoppach
13. Russell Martin

p.s. Mathis is terrible

Thin position. Take a stab on McCann now if you can because you'll be waiting a few years until a good one comes along.
Saltalamacchia is only in High A and I agree Mathis is dying a slow death.

Maybe Jeff Clement, but I don't know much about him.

With the Padres catching state after this season, Kottaras would be a solid investment.

1 - 2 is definitely McCann of the Braves, then Russ Martin of the Dodgers. After that you could make a case for a lot of guys. Although out of those guys, I'd say Jeff Clement will definitely be up there near the top after some minor league work.

Mccann without a doubt number one.
From there I like Martin, Huber, then Shoppach.
After that, Doumit.

I agree. I think he's quite underrated.

He'll never be a top player, but he'll be solid. And looking at his build, he looks like he could play 15 years without wearing down.

Carter,
Just curious. Why do you say Mathis is terrible. He was promoted to AAA after a mediocre year in AA.
He has bounced back nicely hitting .280 with 15 HR's.

As a Sox fan, it hurts to admit, but I'm not at all impressed by Shoppach. He is a .270 hitter in AAA with average power. I doubt he wil ever hit over .250 in the bigs and his defense in not spectacular. I have seen him play in Portlans (AA) and Pawtucket (AAA).
