Control Hitting Derby

Postby orange12 » Tue Jul 12, 2005 2:04 am

I would love to see baseball impliment a Control Hitter Derby to compliment the Homerun Derby. You can have a dozen bullseyes all around the field varying in size and points worth and have hitters try to hit them one after another. It would kinda be like the MLB equivalent of the Three Point Contest. To be honest, I always found the Three Point Contest to be more exciting and fun to watch than the Slam Dunk Contest.

Why not a skill competition like hockey? Have the idea you suggested with things like throwing accuracy/speed, fielding, turning DPs etc. That may not bring in casual fans, though I'm not sure how many this little experiment did either. :-°

Make the All-Star game meaningless and save it for the end of the season like they do with the Pro Bowl. That's what I say.

That would be a great idea. Maybe too good for MLB to handle.

Probably a higher chance of meaningless injury that way. Never happen.

How do any of those involve more injury than actually playing a game? :-?

If it was at the end of the season, it would become as pointless as the probowl, when all the players are just dying to get on their vacations. In-season is better.

I agreed with you until the whole 3 point thing is better then the slam dunk.
