what gets me is not that its is pods/jeter, but that it is pods, who is far less deserving than about 10 other AL players not going...

Look, there are plenty of players more deserving than Podsednik, but none of them improve the team like Podsednik does. He makes a walk to another player a double by pinch-running and that may be the difference in a close all-star game...a difference that Jeter doesn't bring over Young or Tejada and a difference Hafner doesn't bring over any other slugger in the AL lineup. Podsednik IMPROVES the AL roster more than any other player could have; it was a wise voting decision.

i hate the yankees, but I still think its wrong to not see Jeter in. Id like to see Scott Podsednik dive into the crowd full speed to make a catch, and then come out with a big gash on his face needing stitches. That is an All-Star, and Jeter got majorly shafted.

I just quickly skimmed the first pages of this thread and haven't found it anywhere else, but what were the final tallies? Was it a case where Matsui and Jeter split the vote too much for either to win -- Jeter getting the Yankee vote while Matsui got the Japanese? :-?

I agree that either of them would have been a far better choice, but it was left up to the "fans" (people with too much time on their hands) again, so what can you really expect? :-P

It's not about improving the team, it's about giving the most deserving players a chance to play. I don't know if Jeter was the most deserving player left or not (although leading the AL in runs has to count for something), but it's not Pods. And saying it's a "wise choice" implies that the fans who voted for Pods actually thought about improving the team, whereas I'd wager they either a) don't really follow baseball, b) are Sox fans, or d) are Yankee haters. Wisdom goes out the window when you're talking about All-Star voting. ;-D

I thought Hunter should have gone. He's having an amazing year, will finish 30/30 with his consistently terrific defence.

I don't have all of the numbers but Pods just edged out Jeter with 3,965,473 votes (Oswalt won the NL with only 2,652,549) Matsui finished 4th in the voting behind Pods, Jeter and Hunter.

I have not read this entire thread but I have one question for Blank and any other Yankee fan complaining. Did you vote. If you did then you can say whatever you want. If you didn't vote then stop your complaining.

Jeter not getting in is a CRIME. I'm as big a Yankee hater as the anyone but Jeter deserved to be on the All-Star team. I can't think of a worse snub in history.

Podsednik on the team is a joke. Plain and simple.

Several times. ;-D

Good point about Hunter, this year he's at least equally deserving as Jeter. Which puts him way ahead of Pods.
