LATEST NEWS
The Pirates recalled catcher-outfielder Ryan Doumit from their top farm club. A second-round draft pick in 1999, he has emerged as one of the Pirates' top prospects with a .344 average, 12 homers and 35 RBI at Triple-A Indianapolis. He will catch occasionally -- although the Pirates already are carrying catchers Humberto Cota and David Ross -- play the outfield and be a DH in AL parks during some upcoming interleague games.

FANTASY ANALYSIS
The most-anticipate prospect of the spring has arrived! "You've got a switch-hitting catcher with power ... those guys just aren't out there," GM Dave Littlefield has said. Yeah, Victor Martinez comes to mind, which should have catcher-needy teams racing to pick him up right away. Doumit is ready to hit big-league pitching and has proved it. He took a rehabbing Curt Schilling deep on Triple-A opening day and tore up big-league arms this spring. As a switch-hitting catcher with pop, he is a must own in NL-only leagues and someone to certainly consider stashing in mixed leagues. He could make a really big splash in short order. His bat is too promising to slot as a reserve.
