I wouldn't do it until it's announced that Contreras has bumped Weaver out of the rotation. Given Weaver's horrible performance lately, it's probably only a matter of time, and the Yankees aren't giving Contreras 7 million to be a long reliever.
Drop Weaver. He's been terrible since coming to the Yankees. 4+ era last year and 5+ era this year. Good riddance.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I watched Contreras pitch 4 innings yesterday against the Jays and he looked positively electric. I think that alot of the problems he has had so far have to do with not being used to coming out of the bullpen, and never having pitched in relief in Cuba. Once he gets into the starting rotation, I think he has the potential to have Hideo Nomo-type success.
Weaver is pitching against the Tigers next so hold onto him until then. I wouldn't drop Weaver unless they actually announce something. If he doesn't bounce back after that series, then I think Weaver will be bumped for Contreras.
Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.
