Internet access

Postby JRM4833 » Tue Apr 12, 2005 11:45 am

I'm trying to get high speed internet at home but having trouble deciding who to go with. I live in Boston but Verizon and RCN don't provide access to my apartment. I know Comcast is good but it's $50 a month after 3 months at $19.99 while Verizon is $30 a month. Earthlink is a little cheaper at $19.99 a month for the 1st 6 months and $45 a month afterwards for DSL. Their cable net access is basically the same as Comcast but at $45 a month rather than $50. Anyone use either of Earthlink's packages and have an opinion? JD Power ranks them pretty high I guess. Any other suggestions on providers I haven't looked at? Or a promo code? Thanks in advance. ;-D

Earthlink has got cable too. Is it as good as Comcast's? I had Verizon DSL awhile back and didn't really have any problems with the speed which is why I was asking. I'd be fine to use them now too but they don't offer it where I live.

If you don't do any serious gaming or downloading, then there is no need to pay the extra $$$ for cable. It's faster, but DSL isn't bad for casual surfing.

I agree. Down here the difference in performance wasn't nearly enough to justify the difference in price. Of course, coming from a 56k connection anything would seem fast. :-D

Cable is the best and if you can wait until Comcast ever calls me back for a final interview, I might be able to swing you a deal. :-?

Go with comcast, its just plain better, you'll get better service there than Earthlink too should you need it.
