Pitching strategy for 5x5...new to format

Postby Hornsby » Sun Apr 03, 2005 1:19 am

Thanks in advance. New to
5x5, and can use some advice.

12 team 5x5 H2H mixed
weekly lineup

3 SP minimum per week
No innings min/max

what have you found to be the best mix
of SP/RP ?

I've got 7 SP, 3 set-up guys, 2 closers.

Start the closers for sure, but curious
as to opinions on the mix of SP and
set-up guys. Just an overall theory
if you have one.

Thanks! and good luck this season.

edit to add: my question stems from the idea
that set-up guys can vulture Ws, and contribute
to ERA, WHiP, and Ks and may be as good or
better option than a starter with bad matchups,
etc. Thanks, again.

5 SP
3 CL
2 ML

Ideally, that's how I would have it.

Thanks for quick reply, Cords, I appreciate you
taking the time.

Would love to start 3 closers, but only have 2
at the moment with one on the DL.

For the next few weeks I am stuck with 2 unless
I trade....nothing on the WW available.

Use another SP or set-up guy in the mean time,
unless the matchups are obvious?

Thanks!

in H2H it's hard to call a closer picking up a win for a week. like im sure tom gordon owners last year didnt put him in the lineup saying "he's good for a win". as for roto he will put up 8 or 9 wins over the course of the season.

it depends who your SP are and if their matchups are weak. it also depends on how strong your relievers are. i assume Gagne is the guy on the DL, so that obviously hurts.

if u posted ur staff i'd have a better idea.

good point Cords...didn't want to make this
a WDIS, but will post it. Don't want to offend
the site Gods, as I am a noob. Really was just
interested in theory/approach.

Thanks for taking the extra time with this one.

SPs
L Hernandez
J Thomson
S Kazmir
K Millwood
N Robertson
O Perez
M Clement

RPs
L Ayala
J Cruz
K Gregg

Closers
Benitez
B.J. Ryan

*Gagne on the DL
Some one already had Yhency, all
closers gone. Only some select set-up
guys on the wire. This is what I run with
for a few weeks, it seems.

fwiw-
checked with other starting rosters
in my league for week 1. Most seem
to employ 6 SP-3 RP (3 closers if they
have them, or 2 with 1 set-up guy).
