My league as been struggling to find a sixth pitching cat but we decided to go with CG. Which pitchers would you bump up your cheat sheets due to this cat? I know Livan had 9 last year ;-D , any other pitchers come to mind?? Thanks!

Well, for 2004:

Hernandez had 9, as you mentioned.
Mulder, Lidle, Sheets, Westbrook and Ponson had 5.
Schmidt, Buehrle, and RJ had 4.
Hudson, Morris, Schilling and May had 3.

Basically it seems that it is pretty much a random category that you should be satisfied if you randomly finish in the middle of the pack. No real guarantee that most of those guys will have similar numbers of CGs this year, especially since several of them switched teams.

yeah....i'm really against it, but I can't sell my league on Holds. Any other ideas for the sixth cat? I like the K/9, but doesn't this count strikeouts a little too much?

ya that makes k's worth too much. I like holds as a 6th.

Just tell them that CG are a random stat that are very few of and are impossible to evaluate. It also values up starters. K/9 is an equal cat for every one, but since you probably have K already I'd go holds. I love it for making middle relievers more a part of the league.

our commish wanted CGs; i thought it was too random. sportsline let us compromise and create our own stat: IPs + 9*CGs. so that your workhorse pitchers, even MRs, still got some props, but you got some extra love on the CGs.

otherwise, i prefer stats such as walks or home runs given up which really only come down to the pitcher vs. the batter (don't need to worry so much about stadium & supporting-cast dependancies).

mulder and livan are the only sure things.

re: k/9 - all it does is make Ks count for double assuming everyone gets close to max IP

actually, another good stat is quality starts. it's limited to SPs, but so is CGs, and is less random / more observations.
