Any tips for a first timer?/Draft this Saturday

Postby soko20 » Wed Mar 23, 2005 1:04 pm

Hey, my league has their draft this Saturday. Does anyone have any tips or pointer for me. What should I make sure I do or don't do? What approach should I take in making making my picks?

Take all the bats in the begining rounds. Let all the others take lidge, rivera, prior, oswalt and take all the hitter that fall to you. I took my first oitcher in the 6th round with peavy.

Take closers in the middle rounds. I grabbed Francisco cordero in the 8th and mota in the 9th. If you have a snake pick grab then back to back and create a run on them.

10 - 20 - grab some pitchers burhlele, smoltz, grinke, etc. and fill in your OF spots with like guillen, paterson, burelle, etc..

Be sure to grab Pedro Feliz as a bench player, with bonds injury his value has increased. do not grab him before the 16th though.

After you have a stacked offense, take chances on pitchers liek AJ burnett.
grab harden no ealier than the 7th.
Take mike gonzales as your last pick if you need a pitcher

For the most part, I agree with the previous post, but you always need to watch for runs on particular positions. Somebody started a run on RPs in the 3rd round of our draft and I had to jump in quick to grab Cordero in the 4th. He was the last elite RP. That does allow other positions to become open for the picking though.
Always look for the odd man left out. Michale Young was just sitting there in the 5th round and for some reason I was able to get Carlos Lee in the 9th!
