Fort Myers, FL (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Blaine Neal from the San Diego Padres Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Adam Hyzdu.

Neal, 25, has made 94 career major league relief appearances for the Marlins (2001-2003) and Padres (2004), posting a 4-1 record and a 4.62 ERA. The 6'5- righthander is 23-14 with 73 saves and a 2.61 ERA in 234 career minor league appearances, all but five in relief.

Hyzdu hit .233 with 19 homers and 57 RBI in 190 career major league games with the Pirates (2000-2003) and Red Sox (2004). He was brought up from the minors last season in September and went 3-for-10 with two doubles, a homer and two RBI in 17 games for the Red Sox.

Hyzdu has also spent time in the Giants, Reds, Diamondbacks and Pirates organizations, hitting .276 with 239 homers and 873 RBI in 1,482 career minor league contests.
