Although they still expect him to take the mound, the Cubs are considering alternatives in case Kerry Wood isn't ready for Opening Day.
''We've talked about a few possibilities,'' manager Dusty Baker said. ''We've talked about rearranging things if he's not ready. I can't tell you at this point who.'' Wood, diagnosed with shoulder bursitis, will resume throwing off flat ground tomorrow.

In theory, that would be a good idea. But was RJ an injury risk in 2003? He would have hurt you if you had drafted him then, after very few problems before hand.

If you ever want to know whether or not somebody is a Mariners' fan, you look for comments like this. Unit did have problems before '03. He had back problems when he was younger, with the M's. That's one of the reasons we dumped him ;)

My point is, unless your name is Cal Ripken Jr., you are going to miss some time in your career. Some people miss more than others, (Kerry Wood, for example :~( ). In my mind, RJ isn't one of them. Stringing 5 healthy seasons in a row is a fairly healthy player in my mind. I guess I'm not a good judge, though, as I have Wood, Preston Wilson, Sexson and Maggs on my team. :-b

LOL. I try to stay way from injury risks, personally. I've got Wood on two Yahoo teams, though.
