The Mariners plan to give Jeremy Reed plenty of playing time this spring so they can determine if he's ready to be their center fielder.
Reed is one of the best outfield prospects in baseball and would make a very nice #2 hitter behind Ichiro in the Seattle lineup. ''He's going to be a good one,'' said Seattle bench coach Ron Hassey. ''He's a real hard worker who wants to improve.'' If Reed makes the team out of spring training, he'll be one of the leading Rookie of the Year candidates.

Batting Order
Pos. Player
1 Ichiro Suzuki
2 Jeremy Reed
3 Adrian Beltre
4 Richie Sexson
5 Bret Boone
6 Raul Ibanez
7 Randy Winn
8 Miguel Olivo
9 Pokey Reese
everything i've seen projects reed as the number 2 hitter, and he can put up some pretty good numbers from there.
