Millhouse wrote:According to ‏@closernews -- who you should follow if you're not already -- current closers who could be traded this month: Veras, Cishek, Gregg, Street, K-Rod. Perkins, Janssen are longshots.

So based on that list, would your first grabs be Cisnero/Wright, Ramos, Russell/Blake Parker, Gregerson, Axford/Henderson, Burton, Cecil/Delabar?

Street really? I thought the Padres signed him to an extension last season? Would that still make him a likely trade target? Wouldn't Gregerson be more likely traded than Street?

2 innings with a 5 Run lead is not a defined Save opportunity. Unless he goes 3 innings, he needs to enter the game with the potential tying run at least on deck (or at bat or on base). Doesn't sound like he met the criteria in any way. The only qualification he met for a Save was actually finishing the game.

Casey Janssen couldn't get the job done last night and was pulled to have Steve Delabar come in and get the 1 out save.
wasn't there talk of the Jays trading Janssen? Delabar could step in and close.

i was watching it. He didn't have his best stuff, but wasn't too bad. He should have gotten the save but Kawasaki committed a throwing error on what should have been the final out. For some reason they pulled Janssen after the error. Delabar got the final out on 1 pitch.

Papelbon? Could see him getting moved if the Phillies decide that their recent improved play will not result in a playoff run.

What about a speculative add with Ziegler in Arizona? He did close games with Oakland a few years back

I wouldn't bother with him. It's going to be Putz long term -- after giving up a run in a blown save on July 1, he has recorded 10 straight outs over four appearances. Now's the time to get Putz as cheap as possible.

Ziegler's actually been worse in July than Putz, with four runs, three walks and one strikeout in four innings. He's not a major K pitcher anyway, getting his outs via ground balls, but his tiny K rate is something to keep in mind if you have IP limits for roto leagues. Ziegler's also leading the league in appearances -- over-usage risk?

Jim Henderson is Notacloser but still interesting long-term, however, yesterday's outing doesn't help his case. 4 bb in 1 ip. Axford's clearly been better since the beginning of June. I'm starting to lean in his direction, if there's a K-Rod trade.

Zeigler got the save last night. if you're looking for saves, Zeigler is valuable. I wouldn't drop someone you feel is more useful, but if you have someone you can drop to pick up Zeilger it wouldn't be a bad move. if he only gets 1 more save over the next week, that's 1 more save to add to your number. Putz would be the guy once they have confidence in him, but right now it seems they don't, so right now Zeigler is just as good as anyone. I would think he would be ahead of Bell or Bell would still be the short term fill in closer until Putz is ready.
Putz could be the guy tonight, and going forward. but until I see that I think Zeigler can be just as useful for saves.
