Lind and Marcum for Weaver? WHIR!

Postby thejusman1 » Fri May 06, 2011 12:18 pm

12-team, H2H league. We play with default yahoo lineup positions (2 util) and our scoring categories are:

Hitters: R, HR, RBI, NSB, AVG, OPS, K
Pitchers: W, L, K, ERA, WHIP, QS, NSV

C - Jorge Posada
1B - Prince Fielder
2B - Ryan Raburn
3B - David Wright
SS - Assdrubal Cabrera
OF - Ethier, Alex Gordon, Adam Lind
Util - Berkman, Hafner
BENCH: Eric Hosmer
DL - Hamilton, Aaron Hill

SP - Kershaw, YoGa, Marcum, Jurrjens, Bedard, De La Rosa, Volquez, Lilly
RP - Kimbrel, Valverde, Walden, Farnsworth, Padilla
DL - Webb

If I packaged away Lind + Marcum for Weaver, I would play Hosmer or a hot hand until Hamilton was back... what do you guys think? Am I giving up too much? Or do I have the depth to make the pitching upgrade?

Thanks for your input on my topic. Here's my take on yours:

I have Weaver on my team and there's no way he's keeping up his fast start. We may have already seen 35% of his wins in the first month as well.

Marcum on the other hand is starting off steadily and his ERA is great.

I wouldn't even trade Marcum 1 for 1 with Weaver right now, let alone packaging in Lind.

Ride Lind's hot hand and enjoy Marcum's solid season with no real ups and no downs. That's what I would do anyway...

You would be giving up way too much in my opinion!

Stick with Lind and Marcum here. Weaver won't keep it up and Marcum is as solid as they come. Plus I really think Lind is putting it together this year so far and will put up big numbers. I wouldn't do this.

please help

Agree with all above.

Marcum is going to be a beast this year, and Lind is having a very nice season. Weaver will cool off, and may be worth Marcum long term, but not both. I'd stand pat. I pegged Marcum as a sleeper for being in the running for the Cy Young talking to people pre season, so I am VERY high on him. (I took Marcum over Weaver (picked one pick after me) in my draft, so between the two, Marcum all the way.)

Thanks for the help with mine. ;-D Good luck!

My first instict would say trade them and get Weaver because I could honestly see him winning 18-20 games. But the more I read the posts above, the more I realized it might not be worth it. There is no way that Weaver will keep up the pace he has been on..his ERA will come back down to earth and Marcum does look like a very good candidate for a sleeper CY YOUNG pick haha And Lind has been insane...and he has the ability to keep it up. Stay where you're at right now, its not worth buying that high at this point.

someone offered me Weaver and I was tempted but looking at his career stats he looks like a first half pitcher. His ERA in August and September when H2H championships are won is in the 4's so I would say NO to this deal.

I honestly can't believe no one would do this trade. You have enough on your team to overcome a loss in Marcum and Lind. Literally, this trade is a no brainer, that is if the kid would accept it. I wouldn't if I was him. You have Hamilton coming back, and can place Berkman in the outfield right now and like you said start Hosmer for now. I saw someone say they wouldn't trade Marcum for Weaver straight up, that is a bold statement. I would do this, its risk reward in fantasy baseball, they all say ride Lind's hot hand, well trade them away now before they dip down and ride Weaver's hot hand. He's a sure 200 strikeouts and with the Angels will always win you games around 15-20. I watched a couple interviews this year with him before I drafted him and then watched a couple after his 5-0 start and he just says he feels more comfortable these past two years. He's an elite pitcher from here on out in his career, try to get him, don't know if you will with that trade though.
