Re: % of budget spent on Hitter/Pitchers

I like to spend 75%-85% on hitters in most (daily lineup) HTH leagues and 65%-75% in roto leagues. Of course the roster/scoring/transaction rules change it a lot. If you are in a league where you can draft elite hitters and then use most of your bench on extra SPs where IP limits don't constrain you...

Re: 2014 CLOSERS THREAD

There is a real difference in closing out a game than in throwing in the 7th inning. Like putting on the 18th to win a tourney, or shooting free throws with less than a second on the clock everything is final. There are some guys where this doesn't bother them, but there are many more people that ha...

Daisuke + cutter = good?

Daisuke Matsuzaka got a save last night with Farnsworth having thrown a lot lately and having "I'm just old" arm issues, which got me to actually look at him a bit. Yes it's a super small sample size and he's got a .200 BABIP, but there's a few items I noticed that made me wonder what if h...

Re: Thoughts on a few potential breakout SP's

Martin Perez is an interesting case to me. He just turned 23 this month, but it seems like his velocity has been decreasing through his late teens and early 20's. Back in 2009 (18 years old) he was striking out over a batter an inning (in single-A or rookie ball) and pitching in the mid-upper 90's w...

Re: 2014 CLOSERS THREAD

Anyone think if Nathan is done Detroit would bring Knebel up this season? Small sample at AA but he's looks like he's destroying hitters there too. I know he only has one year of pro experience but he's 22 and has a sub-2.0 FIP through his 42 innings of work. In Oakland I wouldn't count Doolittle ou...

Re: 2014 CLOSERS THREAD

Has anyone in Chicago or that follows the White Sox heard if the Jones move was due to his injury? Maybe Ventura was trying to protect him a bit if he knew he wasn't 100%? Or was this Ventura just channeling his inner Dusty and messing with things just to mess with things?

Re: 2014 CLOSERS THREAD

I still think the closer job in TX is Soria's to lose regardless of how well Feliz pitches. Ron prefers veterans especially in the late innings (See also: Darren Oliver) plus I think has some head-case questions to answer assuming it all went down as reported in that WS vs STL. Not saying that I don...

Re: Week 2, Cheering and Venting and Patience Please

- Melky Cabrera I still think he is who we thought he is. I expect a 15-15 season from the Melk with a good batting average and decent (145-160) R+RBI. Jose Abreu He's still wide open. I was happy to see he didn't look over matched to staart the season when the lights came on. If he stays around th...

Re: SPs with RP Eligility in Yahoo

Wacha Cingrani Carlos Carrasco is a good young pitcher that will be in the rotation but is SP/RP in Yahoo. Alex Wood (ATL) Tanner Ruark looks to start the year as an SP since Fister looks hurt. To start the year at least Tanner Scheppers is a SP/RP. Carlos Martinez is starting in the pen but I think...
