BALTIMORE -- Cal Ripken is being courted by more than one prospective Washington Nationals ownership group.
They're asking him to play a significant role in the team's operations, and Ripken says he'd be interested if the job could tap his baseball expertise without straining his family life.
The longtime Oriole, who retired in 2001, is the record holder for consecutive games played.
He says he hasn't made any commitments, even informally, to any suitors. Nor is he expected to link with any investor group at least until Major League Baseball announces its choice to purchase the former Montreal Expos.
That decision is expected to be made later this year.
After that, Ripken and his representatives say he could be interested in a possible equity stake and a decision-making position in the organization.
