Vetoable? Young for Wells

Postby rich101682 » Wed Mar 02, 2005 12:24 pm

This trade just popped up in my Yahoo league:

David Wells for Michael Young.

My gut says veto. Team giving up Young is desperate for pitching (Livan, Penny, Smoltz, Weaver, Milton), but I think he can get something better for Young. What do you think?

Unless there is obvious collusion...let it go.

Wow, that's one horrible trade. I would veto, that's pretty much collusion in my book...unless the team getting Wells posts his thoughts and they're at least coherent. :-/

I do need a SS, but Yahoo says I can't offer a trade involving someone in a pending transaction. So if it gets shot down, I'll see what I can do. I'm thinking of posting a message for the guy trading Young to ask what the deally-o is. Thanks for the help everyone.

That's always the best way. Communicate with your owners. If the guy is desperate for pitching and deluding himself in to thinking that Wells is still a top pitcher, then don't veto. He deserves to lose Young.

Collusion is the only reason to veto. A lopsided trade alone is not reason to veto - it may be reason to investigate, but not simply shoot it down.

I suppose some trades are de facto collusion and you need to take swift action. Like say, Helton and Santana for Doug Waechter. But this does not fall in to that category. It's a bad trade, but it could be made by someone who is trying to get better but just isn't very bright. That's why you talk to the guy and find out his thinking.

ya as a commish i don't just veto a trade cause its uneven. Sure Young is probally worth a lot more for wells. But mabye other people don't wanta to trade a pitcher for young and ells was all he could get. Sometimes leagues just don't like to trade unless its screwing the other person anyways.

Don't veto a trade for not being even. Veto trades for collusion.

I would veto this unless the team giving up young is insanely deep at SS
