i am in a salary cap / dollar value league $300** cap. (14 teams, 26 man roster)
I have the 6th pick 1st round, so far Guerrero went #1 at $43
#2 Pujols $44 and #3 beltran $43 ( we are using MLB.com fantasy player values) there are 2 more picks in front of me, would it be wise to take Teixeira at #6 overall $ 24. he should be outstanding this year in that lineup and the way i see it is i would be 14-18 $$ in the green right off the bat and as the others are taking $ 1 and $2 players later in the draft, i can be getting 5 and 6 dollar talent ( if i stick to plan and remain frugal throughout).

It is hard to give advice without knowing the asking dollars for the other top notch players available. There is no doubt that Tex will be huge this year but are you foresaking your chance of a Santana, RJ, Helton, Abreu type of player by taking him in the 1st round?

yes i am sacraficing helton santana rj thome arod etc. etc. but they all carry high premiums. if you take a player at 40 dollars that's almost 15% of your budget on 1 player?

It is an interesting league - success depends on the value you get from your picks. I think tex will be good value at that price. Young players should be good value (Morneau, Mauer, Crosby etc) as they haven't reached their peak yet.
After thinking about it, I would take these players in the first few rounds and spend big later if you need to.

This may be a stupid question....BUT if you're going to have dollar values attached to the players then why not just do an auction draft?
You don't have to like 'em to own 'em!!!!
