update

here is an update of our draft. I am still pondering my next draft pick.

Our league has an interesting combination of newbies and experienced players so try not to laugh...

Round 1:
S. Hillenbrand
O. Perez
K. Griffey
T. Hunter (me)
E. Hinske
B. Boone

Round 2:
K. Millwood
A. Ramirez
M. Prior (me)
K. Wood
A. Jones
F. Garcia

Round 3:
J. Spivey
A. Dunn

So my current roster is now:
Jorge Posada (C)

Eric Chavez (3B)
Derek Jeter (SS)
Sammy Sosa (OF)
Cliff Floyd (OF)
Bobby Abreu (OF)

Mark Mulder (SP)
Barry Zito (SP)
Eric Gagne (RP)
John Smoltz (RP)
Randy Wolf (SP)
Matt Morris (SP)
Keith Foulke (RP?)

The positions and stats have been finalized. Remeber, this is a weekly H2H league. The stats will be:

M. Lowell

Other hitters

Pitchers (this is just a list I made of available pitchers ranked according to last year's Yahoo rank)
1. Hideo Nomo
2. Jason Schmidt
3. David Wells
4. Matt Clement
5. Octavio Dotel
6. Ugueth Urbina
7. Tim Wakefield
8. Ramon Ortiz
9. Jose Mesa
10. Arthur Rhodes
11. Jamie Moyer

16. Rick Reed
17. Joel Piniero
18. Jorge Julio
19. Tomokazu Ohka
20. Russ Ortiz
21. Jeff Weaver
22. Vladimir Nunez
23. Brian Lawrence
24. Kevin Appier
25. Chriss Hammond

Who do you guys recommend? Is there anyone else I should consider?

When should I try to grab Godzilla? There's 3 more picks before its my turn, and then 6 more before I get to pick again.

When should I go for the riskier choicies, such as Teixera?

Thanks,
Slant

Of the infielders, Lee is probably the most intriguing. If he continues to steal bases he'll be very valuable. I think I'd go with Vidro, however, who is both safer and gives you a backup plan at 2b should Durham wind up playing a different position.

Some of the outfielders are also nice values at this point, but I think infield has priority, especially if you do go for Godzilla. It's hard to say when the right time for picking him will be, but as soon as he signs a contract, he'll be front-page news. I think I'd risk waiting one more round, but not much more than that.

There are some nice pitchers available, too. In particular, another closer would probably look good on your roster.

In sum, I'd play it something like this:

Vidro with the next pick.
Then Mesa, if available; Matsui otherwise.
Matsui or best available closer, depending on the previous pick.
Then go for a starter.
Afterwards, try to land high-upside players like Teixeira and Contreras.

Of course, that's just a best-case scenario. Things never work out quite the way you plan them. At any rate, your team is rock solid and should contend, no matter how the draft turns out.
