Endy Chavez -- SB option in deep league?

Postby Doc19 » Fri Feb 25, 2005 6:51 pm

I am in a large roster, 10 team 5x5 roto league -- draft was last week, and I ended up light in SB's. Looking at the waiver wire, Endy Chavez is still available -- do you think he is worth a shot to possibly improve this year and steal 30+ bases again?

30 man rosters

My current speed: Reyes, Brian Roberts, Lew Ford, Alex Rios

DeJesus and C. Burke already taken

Thanx! :-]

I actually don't think you will have that much trouble getting steals with those guys, especially if Reyes is healthy. The of situation in Washington is crowded, but Chevez is as of now the starting cf. Don't know if he will improve all that much but he should give you around 30 steals.

I would have to see your roster and see if you have anyone worth dropping for him, but I def. think he is worth a roster spot in most leagues. It is tough to leave 30 sb's on the waiver wire for someone else to pickup....even if you don't 'need' him, I would probably grab him and use him in a trade later to upgrade a position or two. Speed is one of the easiest things to trade and everyone needs it.

Actually, according to the depth charts I've seen, Wilkerson is starting in center and Johnson at first, leaving Endy on the bench. He'll see time if Johnson struggles or gets hurt, and forces Wilk to move back to first, opening up a hole for Endy.

There was another thread about this http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=97072&highlight=endy+chavez and a whiff of info which suggested that perhaps rather than Endy and Sledge battling for the position, it's gonna be between Sledge and Nick Johnson and that Chavez is likely to be the starting CF.
