U2 without a doubt...I don't even know how Sonic Youth made it into round 2 :-t . I saw them when they opened for Pearl Jam, and I don't know about their studio albums, but they were horrible live.

U2 I wouldn't call modern, but I'll pick them nonetheless. I'm actually pissed off with their last two albums--they're too safe. After trying to push things with Zooropa and Discoteque, they went back to standard, radio-driven rock. Take "Beautiful Day"--the chorus sucks (if you can say it has one).
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.

But U2 isn't a modern rock band, really. If I were to judge them solely on their modern work, then I'd vote Sonic Youth. In fact, I regret my choice. U2's best stuff is 15 years old, if not more.

Oh, and above I was refering to Pop, by the way.

Like REM, U2 just barely met the qualification specs I set for this thing. The title "Modern Rock" really was to keep things seperate from the Classic Rock tourney.
