That response made me go double check a few things. Seems the Rangers want Laird to start off at AAA to make sure his thumb is ok and he's back to form. Barajas will start the year with the job. Sorry, not sure how that got past me. :-/

Laird is the catcher Texas sees in its future, but he suffered a thumb injury that the team is still concerned about. That's why they signed Sandy Alomar Jr. as insurance, but if Laird is good to go, he'll challenge Barajas, who filled in nicely last year with 15 homers, to get the No. 1 job back.
