If no team will give him a minor league contract, he could consider the Northern League, like has been mentioned. Bobby Madritsch was signed by Seattle from the northern league a couple years ago. And I'm sure many more, but he's one who comes to mind. As far as leagues that look at OBA and things like that, I really don't know. Just send letters everywhere, see what you can get. The Japanese Leagues are also an option but that's pretty far away and would be a culture shock. A lot of players go that route though, and some make it to the majors after that, such as Roberto Petagine is doing this year.

"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"

"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."

Since I'm sure everyone hasn't been able to sleep at night wondering what happened with this story ;-) , I'll fill you guys in. My brother is going to the Northern League tryout as a Catcher even though he has never caught in his life. He figures he'll be considered fast for a catcher, and he'll hit better than most of the catchers there too. He's worked on his throws a little, and if his arm can be just average he might make a team. If he doesn't make it, he might try going to a Frontier League tryout as a first baseman.

This whole speed/arm scouting thing is frustrating the heck out of him. He just wants to hit. That he can do.

Appreciate all the replies. I'll let you guys know if he makes it.

Shifting to catcher sounds like an interesting route. Hope it works out for him! ;-D
