Predetermining your SP staff

Postby Y`s Guy » Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:49 pm

I just can't come out of a draft with a #1 , a #2 and a bunch of rag-arms just because I went all out going for offense. I need the best staff I can get out of a draft. That said, I usually succeed but end up with a middle-of-the-road offense.

Anyway, how many of you actually write down the staff you want and actually draft it. Even if you reach just a little bit.

Knowing I am going to draft two offensive stars with my first three picks (unless Prior is there for my 3rd pick) here is the staff I want:

Prior (3)...

or Hudson(4)
Wood (5)
Harden(7)
Grienke (12)
Clement (14) (I think he will really be good this season)

My staff could be better if I don't stick to my plan but this seems to be a start and hopefull trades pan out for me.

But...how many of you target a staff and go for it?
My Friendliness bar...recently shrunk from 11.3 to 10mm long!!

I don't really target anything until after the draft starts. That is unless I have a really early pick in the 1st round. I usually see what I need in the middle of it and then hope for that guy.

I don't like the idea of targetting specific players in specific rounds. It tends to make you short-sighted and forget about other players who might be good value. I rank my players and try look across all positions before each pick to see where the best value is.

That said, I do enter the draft with an idea of what pitchers are the best values and when I might be able to land them.
